NWAFF STUDENT PROGRAM SCHOLARSHIP GUIDELINES

Mission Statement

Northwest Arkansas Fencing Foundation (NWAFF) is dedicated to helping the under-served youth of Northwest Arkansas between the ages of 9 and 18 athletically through the sport of fencing. Our goal is to help them become not only exceptional athletes but also remarkable members of society that will give back to our community.

Who is Eligible

NWAFF will have the ability to provide up to 200 students ages 9-18 and of any skill level, who meet the DHS guidelines for low income families and who are enrolled in school, to be selected for a competitive fencing program for one hour a week. The one hour would consist of a warm-up and stretching period followed by group fencing lessons in foil, épée or saber. The program is held after school Monday through Friday. Students attend one of four classes one day a week, September through May.

20 to 40 students who excel in the sport of fencing will be chosen for our Full Scholarship Advanced program. The Full Scholarship Advanced Program allows the participants to train up to 6 days a week, receive private lessons 1 to 2 times a week, attend competitions (including travel expenses), and receive all of the equipment necessary for training and competition.

As their skills allow, the Full Scholarship Advanced Program athletes will be required to give back to NWAFF as a volunteer to work with new young fencers in the program, to conduct fencing demonstrations as needed, and/or to donate time to the club.
